
Thor: The Dark World is an American superhero film released in 2013 featuring the Thor, a popular superhero involved in Marvel Comics.The film is under the production company Marvel Studios. It was produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Alan Taylor, it also features a very popular cast including Chris Hemsworth (playing Thor), Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anothony Hopkins and more. The filming for Thor had started in September 2012 and had finished around December 2012, however in July 2013 there was extra scenes added so there was a few shots made. The film was to be release in 2D and 3D but it was announced that the film would be remastered into a IMAX 3D thus enhancing the 3D graphics even further. It took seven special effects studios (this showing synergy in the making of the film) to complete the visual effects for Thor which lead to the total film budget being £150m.

Thor was premiered in the UK on the 22nd of October in Leicester Square with an audience rating of 12A suggesting it may contain some violence or even a bit of adult humour. A lot of marketing techniques were used to advertise Thor ranging from huge billboards to just simple tweets, it seemed no matter where you lived in the UK you where bound to hear about this film.

Along with all the advertising came merchandise, this would be used to help them make a profit on the £150m spent on making the film, because of the film possibly appealing to the older generation of kids aswell as the younger this means they have a much bigger range to what they can produce to sell.

With all the marketing and merchandise working together Thor is expected to make a huge profit (even though the film had used a £150 budget). It appeals to their target audience who is expected to be between 14 - 24(possibly older and mainly male), it would almost primarily be for people who have an interest in the comic book but also for those who just favour action, sci-fi, fantasy films.
